I volunteer because when I grew up in a family that lived below the poverty level in our community. There were many times when we depended on the kindness of feeding distribution centers to get us through the month. I was at church, Faith Outreach, when I heard of the need for volunteers to help feed the hungry. I volunteered. I observed the other supervisors. I was compelled to do more. Serving others is a good thing. It helps me remember when I needed help. Someone was there for me. We should all find a place in this world where we can give back. Plus I am a huge people person. I live for fellowship and I’ll take it wherever people are willing to give it to me. Besides all that, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says, “What a wonderful God we have—he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us.” Shame on me if I don’t.
