Ron, who is a retired manager from the computer industry, moved to Clarksville, TN with his wife, Suzanne in 2006. He started volunteering for Loaves and Fishes in early 2007 and has been serving as a Kitchen Supervisor since that time. He typically works on Friday mornings and enjoys preparing and serving food with the various teams that come to the soup kitchen. He says that he has met many new people from all over Clarksville, which has helped him feel more a part of his adopted community. He has also come to enjoy many of the clients who frequent the soup kitchen and converses and jokes with many of them. He believes that God wants him to serve in this role because of 2 Corinthians 4:6.
One of his many rewarding experiences occurred several years ago when a frequent client asked Ron for a “loan” so he could go and purchase some suitable clothes so he could interview for a job. After this the man did not return to Loaves and Fishes for many months. One day, the man returned and Ron didn’t recognize him, but after he reminded Ron who he was, the man thanked him profusely for trusting him and he paid him back the money he borrowed with interest. What a joy!
Ron has three children and two grandchildren and is an active member of the Madison Street United Methodist Church. He also volunteers weekly with the Clarksville Adult Literacy Center and has a 1950 Chevrolet automobile and works on it and enjoys driving it to local cruise-ins. Ron says that his favorite “volunteer” job is Loaves and Fishes.
