Mary Fisher has been volunteering at Loaves and Fishes since 1999. She is the kitchen supervisor in charge of all kitchen operations. She wears many hats: food distribution, food preparation, and leading the volunteer teams, a task she loves the most at L & F.
Mary has been married to her husband Bill for fifty years. They have two daughters and a son, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. When Mary is not volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, she enjoys visiting the sick, working at her church, reading on he Kindle, and being a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Most of Mary’s life has revolved around helping others. She enjoys volunteering at Loaves and Fishes because “It’s fun working with all the volunteers and knowing that someone that day had a hot meal.”
Her warmest memory at Loaves and Fishes involves caring. “As I was leaving the soup kitchen one winter day, a man appeared at the door. I could tell he was cold and hungry, and he asked for a bite to eat. I explained that we were closed, but from his sad eyes I knew I had to feed him. So I fixed two of the biggest sandwiches I could. When he saw those huge sandwiches he looked at me with the warmest’ thank you.’ As I drove home that day I knew I had fed one of God’s children. You know, that is the warmest feeling! That is what it’s all about- helping others.”
